Bank Nifty consolidated in the tight range in the first half before breaking out of the range and rising sharply to close at 44,360, up 474 points.
The Future Open Interest (OI) indicated covering of existing short positions in Bank Nifty futures. The Put-Call Ratio (PCR) rose from 0.79 a day earlier to 0.88 today, indicating put writers’ strength.
Bank Nifty gave a higher close on the daily chart today. Put Writers further strengthened their position at the maximum put open interest strike of 44,000 today. The Index, however, took resistance around its key resistance zone of 44,500 levels.
A breakout above 44,500 can ignite buying interest in Bank Nifty, which can take the Index until 44,750 levels, where its next resistance is placed. The max pain, which is the strike with most open option contracts, is placed at 44,300.
